Born in Golcar.

 

Son of Sarah Jane and stepson of David Livesey.

 

Step brother of Jack, Tom, Harry and Blanch Livesey.

 

Occupation: Woollen Piecer.

 

Killed in action: 24th October 1917.

 

Buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery. Plot 60. Row K. Grave 20.

 

Alfred was killed during the Battle of Passchendaele. His name appears on the Roll of Honour at Scapegoat Hill Baptist Church.

 

Tyne Cot is the largest Commonwealth War Cemetery in the world and contains 3,588 identified casualties and 8,373 unidentified. It was visited in 1922 by King George V who suggested that the Sword of Sacrifice was erected on the site of the original pill box.
