Tom Wood

Born: 1897 in Golcar.
Son of Samson and Miriam Wood.
The family lived in the home of Tom's Grandmother, Mary Ainley.
Address: 61, Fern House, Golcar.
Employed: Boot Making Dept. of Golcar Co-operative Society, Brook Lane.
Joined up on 3rd April 1916.
Killed in Action: 10th October 1917. Aged 20.
Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 82 to 85 and 162A.
Tom embarked for France on Christmas Day 1916. His parents were informed that he had been killed by a sniper during the Battle of Passchendaele.
Tom attended Golcar Baptist Sunday School, and was a member of Golcar Central Liberal Club. His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar and Golcar Baptist Chapel.
