Albert Wilkinson

Born: 1876 in Sowerby.

 

Son of James and Mary A. Wilkinson.

 

Husband of Rose Ann nee Hogben. Married 1899 (Mar, ¼) in Halifax.

 

Father of Ivy and May.

Occupation: Woollen Spinner, employed by W. & E. Crowther, Brook Mills, Crimble.

 

Enlisted: 2nd November 1916.

 

Died in Glasgow Military Hospital on Sunday 10th June 1917. Aged 41.

 

Buried in Slaithwaite Cemetery. Grave B. 2, 158.

 

Albert was a member of the Vineyard Working Men's Club. His children were both born like him in Sowerby, and his wife in Beverley.

 

Albert was in training in various parts of England and Scotland. He had been in Hospital in Glasgow since February 1917 suffering from a tumour, where in spite of all medical aid he died.

 

His funeral and burial took place in Slaithwaite on Thursday 14th June 1917. His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. James' Church, Slaithwaite, Slaithwaite War Memorial, and St. John's Church, Golcar.
