He died of wounds at the No 20 casualty Clearing Station.

Walter attended Golcar Baptist Chapel and was a member of the Young Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of Golcar Liberal Club.

His name appears on the Roll of Honour in Golcar Baptist Church and St. John's Church, Golcar.
