Designed by Sir Edward Lutyens the cemetery has 618 casualties. Esquelbecq is near the Belgium border, 24km north of Hazelbrouck and the same distance from Dunkirk.
Opened in April 1918 during the early stages of the German offensive in Flanders where the 2nd and 3rd Canadian clearing stations came to Esquelbecq. Closed in September 1918.
Ernest played cricket for Linthwaite and Helme clubs. His name appears on the Roll of Honour at St. John's Church, Golcar and Huddersfield Drill Hall.
