Lambert Taylor

Son of John William and Henrietta Taylor.
Born 16th May 1883, Baptised at Wellhouse Methodist Church.

Enlisted on 23rd October 1916, giving his address as Windsor Hotel, Toronto.
Died from wounds: 26th August 1917. Aged 34.

In 1891 aged 8 years he sailed to America with his mother on the ship 'Alaska. He and his mother were lodging in Small Lane, Golcar with a retired police surgeon at the time. He went to America again with his mother in 1894.
Lambert was a member of Golcar Providance Methodist Church, and his name appears on their special Memorial window.
September 1909, aged 26 he immigrated to Canada, leaving his mother living at 24, Cliffe Ash, Golcar, which is now part of the Colne Valley Museum.
On 11th January 1917 he married Rose Bertha Correa of 340 Pine Street, Jacksonville, Illinois, U.S.A. at the Presbyterian Church in Toronto.
Lambert enlisted with the Canadian Field Artillery in October 1916 and while completing his training in England, he visited his mother in May. He was drafted to France a few days later. He was the only son of Mrs H Taylor and the grandson of the late Police Sergeant Bowker & Mrs Bowker of Brook Lane. He had previously been reported to be suffering from gas poisoning, and it was assumed that he had died of wounds and gas poisoning after being struck by poison gas shell.
His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar and a Memorial in Wellhouse Churchyard.
Lapugnoy Millitary Cemetery situated in the village 6km west of Bethune, where 1,332 casualties are buried.
