John William Taylor

Son of James and Matilda.
Brother of Emma, Edgar and Grace.
Husband of Ada (Married in 1909) and a father.
Address: 92 West End Road, Golcar.
Occupation: Weaver at George Mallinson& Sons, Linthwaite.
Called up on 14th September 1916.
Killed in Action 18th April 1917. Aged 33.

John was a member of Smithriding Working Men's Club. He had been in France for about 11 weeks, when his wife received a letter at the beginning of April from a Lance Corporal stating that John was much respected and the sympathy of the section and platoon was extended to his wife. He said that Private Taylor had received a decent burial just behind the lines, and all his possessions had been forwarded on to them.
John's brother Edgar Taylor died from wounds on 10th December 1917. Both of their names appear on the Roll of, Golcar Honour in St. John's Church.
