Enlisted: 18th April 1916.

 

Died of wounds: 1st September 1918. Aged 24.

 

Buried at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt. Plot 5. Row F. Grave 4.

 

Joe had been in hospital suffering from gas poisoning and shell shock. He died from gunshot wounds at Casualty Clearing Station No 29. His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church Golcar, and Longwood War Memorial.

 

The cemetery is 2km south west of the town of Doullens and was begun in April 1918 after the close of the German offensive in Picardy. A number of Casualty Clearing Stations were moved to Gezaincourt. The cemetery contains 1,374 casualties.
