Charles (Charlie) Taylor

Born 1892 in Golcar.
Son of Sarah Alice, and the late Joseph Taylor.
Brother of George, Willie, Amy, Nellie, Benny and Elizabeth.

Occupation: Spinner at Bank Bottom Mills Marsden.
Killed in action: 26th September 1917. Aged 25.

Charlie was born and brought up at Drummer Lane, Bolster Moor. At the time of his death he had been living with his sister Mrs. Bottomley. He Attended Marsden Parish Church and was a member of Marsden Conservative Club.
The regimental diary records that during the afternoon of the 25th September 1917 the battalion moved up from Tor Top to Lucky Dugout and trenches in the vicinity and came under heavy shelling. On the 26th they took up position in shell holes. At dusk the moved forward about 300 yards and dug in. They were then ordered to move up to the front line. Charlie was reported missing on that day - presumed killed in action, and has no known grave.
