The cemetery is in the Village of Arleux-en-Gohelle, on the main road form Arras to Henin-Lietard. It was begun in April 1917 on the new front resulting in the battles of Arras. The site was given by the widow of a French Infantry Captain who was killed in August 1914.
John embarked for France in November 1916. He was reported missing on 9th April 1917, and afterwards presumed to have died on that date. He attended St. John's Church and is listed on their Roll of Honour, and was a member of Golcar Conservative Club.
