Frank Shaw

 

 

Leicestershire Regiment.

 

Born: 1898.

 

Son of Mr. & Mrs Tom Shaw, of Town End, Golcar.

 

Brother of Hubert, Irvine and Norris.

 

Address: 236 Lees Croft, Golcar.

 

Employed by Ben Hall & Sons, Milnsbridge, and a connected to Golcar Church.

 

Enlisted with his two brothers on 5th August 1914.

 

Died from wounds: 28th July 1918 aged 19 years.

 

His parents received a letter from an army chaplain saying that Frank was wounded on the 17th February 1917.

 

They also received a letter from Frank, saying that he and others were out one night in 'No Man's Land' repairing the wire entanglements when a shell came over the top and he was severely injured in the leg below the calf. The bone was broken and the bullet passed right through. He was, at the time of writing, in Mile End Hospital, London.

 

His brother Irvine was killed in August 1917.

 

Frank's name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar.
