William (Willie) Shann

Died of wounds: 19 October 1914. Aged 31.

 

Buried at Bethune Town Cemetery. Plot 1. Row C. Grave 24.

 

William had been apprenticed to Hetherington Engineers Manchester. He and his wife moved to Scapegoat Hill in 1913.

 

He had been a reservist for 9 years, and prior to that had served for 3 years in India and China, before being recalled. William died of his wounds at No. 33 Casualty Clearing Station.

 

His name appears on the Roll of Honour at St. John's Church, Golcar and Scapegoat Hill Baptist Church.
