Edmund was educated at Crow Lane Board School, Milnsbridge. He attended St. Michael's Mission where he was a Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. Mark's Church Longwood, St. John's Church Golcar and Crow Lane Board School, Milnsbridge.
