Enlisted: 1st March 1916.

 

Killed in Action: 17th July 1917. Aged 29.

St. Nicolas village is close to Arras and from March 1916 to the Armistice it was occupied by Commonwealth Forces. For much of that time it was within range of German artillery fire. The cemetery was started in March 1917 and used by the divisions and field ambulances stationed there. It holds 364 WW1 graves.

 

Harold's wife lived with his parents, and they received news from his lieutenant, that he had been killed in action by shell fire.

 

He was well known in Golcar as he at one time assisted his father in the family greengrocery business. He regularly attended Golcar Baptist Chapel.
