John Herbert (Bertie) Morgan

 

 

Lieutenant. 20th Battalion. Canadian Infantry. 1st Central Ontario Regiment.

 

Born 1883 in Carmarthon, Wales.

 

Son of Ann - born in Swansea.

 

Brother of Trevor and Winifred.

Occupation: Teaching assistant at Crow Lane Board School, Milnsbridge for 5 years, then Knowle Bank Council School, Golcar and Slaithwaite National School.

 

Father of two children.

 

Enlisted: September 1914.

 

Embarked for France: June 1915.

 

Accidently killed by a train in France on 21 February 1918. Aged 35.

John was a member of Golcar Baptist Church Choir. He moved to Canada in1903 and was engaged in the musical profession.

 

Prior to the outbreak of war he was a lieutenant in the Canadian Militia and volunteered for active service in 1914. He went to France in June 1915 and came to Golcar when he was on leave six weeks before he was killed.

 

His name appears on the Roll of Honour in Golcar Baptist Church, St. John's Church, Golcar, and Crow Lane School.
