Fins is a village on the road between Cambrai and Peronne in the Somme region of France.
John served in Italy and France. He was invalided home on one occasion with pneumonia, and later with debility caused by being cut off from his regiment and lost in No Man's Land for a week without food. After recovering he returned to France where he was killed.
Named on the family grave in Pole Moor Graveyard. He had been a pupil at Clough Head School and attended Sunnybank Chapel as a boy then Westwood Church.
His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar.
