Son of Joseph and Sarah Jane.

 

Brother of William, Albert, Thomas and Lizzie.

 

Married to Sarah Ann Bailey on 4th July 1908 at St. John's Church. Golcar.

 

Address: 14 Manchester Road, Linthwaite.

 

Occupation: Woollen Weaver at Charles Lockwood + Sons, Black Rock Mills, Linthwaite.

 

Attended Linthwaite Church and was a member of Smithriding Working Mens Club.

 

Enlisted 22nd September 1916.

 

Killed in action: 10th April 1917. Aged 36.

 

Buried at Rue-du-Bacquerrot No.1 Military Cemetery. Laventie. 111. A. 14.

 

Fred's wife was staying with her parents, Mr, & Mrs Bailey at 5 Ryefields, Golcar when she received a letter from a Captain in the K.O.Y.L.I. on Monday morning 16th April, saying "It is with great regret that I have to announce the death of your husband. Private Hoyle was killed last evening and died instantaneously. He was buried in the cemetery behind the lines and his grave will be cared for. Private Hoyle was a good soldier and his loss will be much felt by all his comrades."
