Tom Harrison

 

 

Private 7th (Reserve Battalion) Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment.

 

Born: 1882 in Linthwaite.

 

Son of Thomas and Sarah A.

 

Brother of Alice, Stead, Ann, Martha, Sarah, and Marina.

 

Married in 1902 to Grace Annie Lumb.

 

Address: 17, Lane Top Linthwaite, previously Handle Street, Golcar.

 

Children: Lilley aged 11, Percy aged 6 and Annie 14 months.

 

They had another 2 children who died in infancy.

 

Occupation: Stone Mason.

 

Enlisted 16th December 1914.

 

Missing Presumed Dead: 3rd September 1916. Aged 36.

 

Tom's father was a stone mason and Tom had also trained as a mason and possibly worked with him. To begin with Tom joined the Territorial Army, and it was from there that he enlisted. It is not clear which regiment he then became attached to.

 

His photograph appeared in the newspaper to say he was missing, but no further details were given. Tom's wife Grace received his army pension.

 

His name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar.
