Born 1894 in Golcar.

 

Brother of Mary, Eliza, Eunice and Beaumont Haigh.

 

Address: Lockwood Fold, Scapegoat Hill.

 

Occupation: Woollen Miller.

 

Enlisted: Huddersfield.

 

Embarked for France: 21st January 1918.

 

Killed in Action: Thursday 25th April 1918.

 

Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, Belgium.

 

George had been home on leave just prior to his departure for France. He was reported to have overstayed by two days and was punished by loss of four day's pay.

 

On 6th August 1921 a letter to the Chief of Police in Golcar was sent from the Officer in Charge at the Infantry Record Office in York, requesting the police to assist in finding his next of kin to dispose of his medals. His brother Beaumont replied on 22nd August that he had received them. His sister Mary received his outstanding pay.
