Fred Haigh

Born 1893.

 

Son of Mr & Mrs George Haigh.

 

Brother of Elon and George.

 

Address: 3 Junction House, Slades Road, Golcar.

 

Occupation: Employed by Mr. Henry Garside, farmer of Golcar.

 

Died 3rd August 1917 aged 24.

 

Buried at Artillery Wood Cemetery, Boesinghe, Belgium. Plot 3. Row A. Grave 20.

 

Mr and Mrs Haigh received news on Saturday 25th August informing them of the death of their son Fred. They were absolutely staggered to then be informed three days later that their youngest son George had also been killed. Both sons attended Westwood Church, and had been to Clough Head School.

 

Fred's name appears on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar and Pole Moor Baptist Church.

 

The eldest brother Elon, survived the war. He was 30 when he enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery (68409) in 1916.
