Robert Randolph Gledhill

 

 

Lance Corporal. 41894. 2/5th Battalion. Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment.

 

Born: 1888.

 

Son of James and Sarah.

 

Brother of Alfred, Carrie, Robert and Harold.

 

Address: 38 Rock Fold, Golcar.

 

Occupation: Warehouse clerk at Messrs. Fisher & Co., Upper Head Row, Huddersfield.

 

Enlisted: March 1916.

 

Killed in action: 3rd May 1917. Aged 29.

 

Commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Bay 6.

 

Robert Embarked for France on10th January 1917. He was reported missing, presumed killed at the Battle of Bullecourt.

 

He attended St. John's Church Golcar and was secretary of the sick and funeral society at the school. His name is on the Roll of Honour in the Church and also in the Huddersfield Drill Hall
