Died of wounds: 10th June 1919. Aged 26.
Buried at Theux Communal Cemetery. Grave No.1.
Theux cemetery holds 31 known casualties and was used by the 36th Clearing Station which was posted to the village from December 1918 to January 1919, and the 61st from January to April 1919. There were 12 deaths after the Armistice.
Eli spent three years in France. On the date of his death he was one of the crew of a tank which got out of control, and in trying to jump clear he was accidently killed. His grave inscription reads: Loving husband of H.M. Fielding, Golcar, Huddersfield.
He was a member of Golcar Conservative Club and his name is on the Roll on Honour in St. John's Church, Golcar.
Hilda was married again on 6th December 1924 to Charlie Crossley. She died on 3rd October 1987.
