Harold Dyson

Son of Fred (a Fettler) and Maria nee Pearson.

 

Born: 1896.

 

Brother of Willie b. 1894, Nellie b. 1900, and Frank b. 1907.

Occupation: Twister in at John Edward Crowther, Bank Foot Mills, Marsden.

 

Killed in Action 8th October 1917, aged 21.

 

Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. Panel 82-85 and 162A.

 

He was sent to France in October 1916, but had been invalided home suffering from trench feet in the December, returning to France on 2nd June 1917.

 

Harold's mother received unofficial news of the death of her second son from his best chum in the same Company. He had been next to Harold in the trenches during a bombardment, and reported that he had been killed instantly. They had buried him as well as circumstances permitted, which must have been with great difficulty, as his grave does not appear to have been recorded, and his name appears on the memorial.

 

He attended Golcar Providence Methodist Church and Sunday School where his name appears on their special Memorial Window, he was also a member of the reading room. He is also listed on the St. John's Church Roll of Honour.
