Son of the late Joe and Elizabeth Mary.

Brother of Mrs Grace Sykes, 131 Radcliffe Rd, Golcar.

 

Occupation: Stone Mason - self employed. He had previously worked for Mr. John Shaw of Holthead for many years.

 

Enlisted: 28th August 1916.

 

Killed in action 16th June 1917. Aged 35.

 

Commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Bay 2 and 3.

 

In 1911 Joshua was living with his brother in law Henry Sykes, his sister Grace Annie Sykes and their children Joseph Harold and Arthur Edward.

 

Grace received news from the York Record Office in July to say that he was reported missing after an engagement on the 16th June. That date is now recorded as the day he was killed.

 

His name appears on the Roll of Honour in S.t John's Church, Golcar.
