Son of John and Kate Brooke.

 

Brother of Ethel and Arthur.

Enlisted: in Leeds, 4th August 1914.

 

Died of wounds: Wednesday 4th September 1918. Aged 20.

 

Buried at FaubourgD'Armiens Cemetery, Arras. Plot 7. Row F. Grave 7.

 

Frank was 16 years old when he enlisted. He took part in the Dardinelles campaign, served for a year in Egypt and then 2 years in France. He was wounded during the first battle of the Somme in 1916, during the fight for Beaumont Hamel. He came home on leave in August 1918 and when he returned to France, died a month later of his wounds.

 

He attended St. John's Church Golcar and was a member of Golcar Conservative Club and St. John's Institute.

 

His name is on the Roll of Honour in St. John's Church.

 

The cemetery holds 2,650 graves, and the surrounding monument holds the names of 35,000 casualties with no known grave.
