Born: 1896 in Meltham.

 

Son of Benjamin and Sarah Hannah.

 

Brother of Harry and Lewis.

Occupation: Night Feeder at Messrs B & J Whitwam Ltd. Stanley Mills, Milnsbridge.

 

Enlisted: 5th November 1915.

 

Norman was a member of Golcar Providence Methodist Church, and his name appears on their special Memorial window.

 

Killed in action: 3rd May 1917. Aged 21.

 

Commemorated on the Arras Memorial. Bay 6.

 

Norman embarked for France in February 1917. He was reported missing on 3rd May 1917 at the Battle of Bullecourt, and in March 1918 his parents were informed that their eldest son was officially presumed to be dead. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial to the Missing.

 

He was a member of Golcar Providence Sunday School, and his name appears on their Roll of Honour.
